Welcome to Moura State School, a school recognised for innovation; caring for others and community involvement. Our entire school community has a sense of pride for our many achievements and our united focus to provide quality learning outcomes for all students to achieve our shared vision and motto of 'striving for great things !' Moura State School is respected across all sectors of education and the wider community for maintaining a consistent approach to achieve its vision of excellence in education. As our school continues to change and grow, a range of quality, productive partnerships develop and strengthen, reinforcing our commitment to work collaboratively across all areas of the school and community. Visitors to the school comment favourably on the positive attitudes of students, staff professionalism, parent support and the school’s physical appearance. Such pride is contagious. As Principal of this great school, my door is always open to every member of the Moura State School Community, as I believe by working together, we learn together and achieve great things. The following short story, borrowed from Tony Ryan, captures my philosophy of education and describes how little actions can make a difference to every child's life. A young woman once was walking along a deserted beach at sunset, when in the distance, she noticed an old man who kept leaning down, picking something up and throwing it back in the water. As she moved closer, she saw that the old man was picking up starfish that had been washed up on the beach and, one at a time, he was throwing them back into the water. The woman was quite puzzled, so she walked up and said, “Good evening. Look, forgive me for intruding, but I was just wondering what you were doing ?” “Oh, I’m throwing starfish back into the water,” replied the old man. “You see, it’s high tide right now and all of these starfish have been washed up onto the shore. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die up here.” “I understand,” she responded, “but there must be thousands of starfish on this beach. You can’t possibly get to all of them. There are too many. And don’t you realise this is probably happening on hundreds of beaches all up and down the coast ? Can’t you see that you can’t possibly make a difference ?” The old man smiled, bent down and picked up yet another starfish. And as he threw it back into the sea, he replied, “Made a difference to that one !” Should you be interested in your child attending our school or would like more information on Moura State School, please do not hesitate to contact me. Regards, Lyle
